Whippet Breed Notes 14th October 2026

The views and opinions expressed in these notes are solely those of the author and do not represent those of the UK Whippet Breed Council.

Great news from Northern Ireland for the breed. Jim Fletcher’s, David and Yvette Short’s Ch/IrCh Collooney We’ve Got This IrJr, CPW24, won his fourth BIS All Breeds this year at the IKCS Autumn Show winning his 52nd Green Star. Cody is this year’s Top Whippet and Top of Group 10, currently in the Top 4 All Breeds. Huge congratulations to the three of you, a great achievement!

South Wales Kennel Association held their Championship Show over 8th-11th October with Hound Day falling on Thursday 8th. There were numerous extensions before the final one which has been the trend over the season for most shows. Extension after extension until they virtually overlap with the next up and coming event. In the past, there was usually just one if you were lucky, whereas nowadays they come in waves!

The judge for the breed was Mrs C Perkins (Silkridge/Brent) and she had an entry of 133, with a split of 59 males and 74 bitches, with 38 absent entries on the day. All judging at the show was done in doors and Whippets were concluded early afternoon with the Hound Group judged shortly after, so no long wait. Whippets were initially scheduled for an early start of 8.30am, but this was kindly put back by the Secretary Bridget Croucher on requests by Whippet Exhibitors  for a later start.

BOB and taking her first BCC from Graduate was Edenwhip A Moment in Thyme owned by Ellen Mallinson and her daughter Lucy. James Winkley Balmer handled her in the Challenge in the video shared on line. Handled by James, she was also shortlisted in the Hound Group under Bill Browne- Cole. Congratulations to you all!  The DCC went to Citycroft Not My First Rodeo at Runforest JW owned by Marcia Dillon and similarly, this was his first such award. The BP was BPB, Mrs L Fleming’s Flerrow Love Like a Bomb. BV was the BVB, Di Bowsher’s Zoraden Fifty Shades Darker JW. The RBCC went to the winner of Junior Bitch, Helen Johnston and Jake Wilson’s Danluke Legs Eleven, with Jake handling on the day. Aarminias Made In Chelsea at Ramita JW took the RDCC from Junior, owned by Amy Chaytor and Ashley Halliday. BPD was Jane Wilton Clarke’s Shalfleet Saros from Novice. BVD was Clara Allansson’s and Mr R Macdonald’s Jasarat Salted Caramel of Macalldon. Congratulations to all and of course to those winning a first Challenge Certificate on the day!

There were a few results in the Stakes Classes. Sadly the numbers entered in the classes were sadly depleted by large numbers of absentees, particularly in the Puppy Stakes where only 3 turned up from an entry of 25 and 22 were absent from the entry of 36 in the Junior Stakes. Even in the Champion Stakes there were only 14 present from an entry of 29. Disappointing for both the judges involved and the exhibitors. Russell Mosedale judged the Special Beginner Stakes and Mrs M Southwick’s Osterfen  Himeji was Reserve. He also judged the Junior Stakes and Jo Beckett-Bradshaw’s Starceylon He’s Just A Rogue of Mulranny was first. Russell also had the Champion Stakes and Ch Shalfleet Making Waves was VHC, owned by Cy Bridgman-Lewis and Jane Wilton -Clark. Barry Blunden judged the Minor Puppy Stakes and Mr M Hill’s Ashkyem Fisher Lewis was second. Heading the Puppy Stakes under Mrs Del Richards, was Mrs L Fleming’s Flerrow Love Like A Bomb. Well done to all in the cards.
