This is an event that has been run for many years – under different guises and by different individuals and clubs. South Yorkshire Whippet Club was at the helm for some time and since 2018 it has been run by a group of volunteers who fundraise for and put together an amazing event that is growing and developing year by year. The classification has been increased over the years and in 2023 was as shown below. Exhibitors who qualify then enter their dog for the event in the same way they would enter a show.
Puppy Competition Qualification
Exhibits to have been awarded either Best Puppy Dog or Best Puppy Bitch at a Championship show in 2023. The puppy competition is run as a match and a draw takes place before the first round. There are three judges.
Adult Competition Qualification
Exhibits to have been awarded a Challenge Certificate or Reserve Challenge Certificate at a Championship show in 2023. (This is split into Adult Dog and Adult Bitch with the winner of each challenging for the title of Whippet Of The Year.) The adult competitions are run as a match and a draw takes place before the first round. There are three judges.
Veteran Competition Qualification
Exhibits to have won a breed Veteran class at a Championship show in 2023. The veteran competition is run as a class with one judge.
Special Beginners Competition Qualification
Exhibits to have won a breed Special Beginners class at a Championship show in 2023. The special beginners competition is run as a class with one judge.
Racing/Lure Coursing Competition Qualification
Exhibits to have won a breed Racing/Lure Coursing class at a Championship show in 2023. The racing/lure coursing competition is run as a class with one judge.
