A busy weekend for Whippet exhibitors with two Championship Shows to attend over in Northern Ireland and a breed club show on the mainland.
For those travelling over, the Irish Sea looked a little on the choppy side, so sea sickness pills were the order of the day for those that cannot take a moderate swell after fish and chips on board.
Belfast General Championship Show was held at the Eikon Exhibition Centre, Lisburn and Hound day was the first, Saturday 26th September. Arne Fosse, from Norway, was the judge for the breed and had an entry of 101, split with 33 males and 58 bitches, with 13 entries absent on the day. Whippets were scheduled to be third in the ring.
BOB, taking the DCC, was Ch Ranveli Diki Diki owned by Rob Wheeler. Scott then headed the Hound Group under Moray Armstrong. The BCC was Team Crosscop’s and Sue Mycroft’s Ch Crosscop Temptation to Supeta. BP and BPB was Rob’s Ranveli Czech Her Out and under Sally Duffin, took the Hound Puppy Group. David and Yvette Short’s Ch Collooney Dita Von Tease was BV and Hound Veteran Group 1 under Swedish judge Hans Almgren. Miss E Stuart’s Shulune Born To Be A Legend was the Best Special Beginner and took Best Special Beginner Group 2 under Frank Borg from Malta. Taking three Group 1’s and one Group 2 must be a record for a breed at one show! Huge congratulations to everyone involved!
The RDCC went to Jim Fletcher’s, David’s and Yvette’s Ch/Ir Ch Collooney We’ve Got This. The RBCC was Ch Collooney Celeste also owned by David and Yvette. BPD was Miss M Briscoe’s Silkridge Pyjama Parti. BVD was Helen and Luke Johnston’s and Jake Wilson’s Ch Aarminias Dragon Lord of Danluke. Ernie also judged the Yearling Stakes and Majestrian Lavender Haze for Whipseale Imp It was Reserve, owned by Nicole Searle and Margaret Rawlinson. Under Frank Whyte in the YRKC Members Stakes, Karma of Love Vip Poppet was third, owned by Mrs C and Miss M Mullan.
Returning on the Sunday, meant walking from the NIWC ring! Scott and Rob went under BIS judge Simon Luxmore and were declared BIS! Sally Duffin was the judge for BPIS and Rob’s Ranveli Czech Her Out went RBPIS. Hans Almgren sorted out his Group Best Veterans and gave the nod to Ch Collooney Dita Von Tease as BVIS, much to the delight of David and Yvette! What an absolutely amazing show for the breed, to have such classic examples taking the top places at this popular show. Congratulations to Rob, David and Yvette. They literally must have floated home!
On Sunday 27th, the Northern Ireland Whippet Club held their Championship Show at the same venue. The judge was Niamh Ballantyne of the Speymalt Whippets who had drawn an entry of 95 with about 14 entries absent on the day. Judging was not before 11.00am so at least it meant that those staying over for the show, could afford a Sunday lie in!
Ch Ranveli Diki Diki notched up another DCC from the Champion Dog Class, going onto BIS. The RDCC was Ch/Ir Ch Collooney We’ve Got This. BPD and RBPIS was Silkridge Pyjama Parti and BVD and BVIS was Ch Aarminias Dragon Lord of Danluke.
RBIS, BOS and BCC winner from Yearling, was Supeta’s Too Glam to Giva Damm owned by Leigh’s Team and Sue. The RBCC was Bohosoul Bewitched from Mid Limit, owned by Linzi Uggeri. BPB and BPIS was Rob’s Ranveli Czech Her Out. RBVIS and BVB was Ch Collooney Dita Von Tease. Many thanks to Craig Starkey who kept everyone up to date with class results as they came in.
Over on the mainland, the Whippet Club held their Open Show on the Saturday, at the usual venue of the Benson Parish Hall at Sunnyside, just outside Oxford. Two judges were officiating, Hilary Male (Malenbrook) for the dogs and Sally Reece ( Saleehah) for the bitches. An entry of 35 dogs and 40 bitches were attracted, with 9 dog and 17 bitch entries absent on the day. BIS and BD was Catherine Tristram’s Supeta’s Just Do It. Best Brace was won by Katie Manners, Fleur Chant and Mr A McDonald. Their Florancy Dark and Stormy was RBD. RBB was second in Limit, Abbeyhurst Dancing Queen JW, owned by Abbeygail Longhurst and Mrs A Longhurst. RBPIS and BPB was Crosscop Peek A Boo Mackjama
owned by Jo Strong and Mr M and Miss A Clinton. BVB and RBVIS was Di’s Zoraden Fifty Shades Darker JW. Mrs F Graham’s Ohoka Tip Top was RBR/LCIS. It was lovely to see the Debutant Class on offer at this show, once so common place on a schedule. A couple of the Our Dog League Tables were updated in September. The Top Stud in the breed is Ch Silkridge Just Joey on 27 points. Top Dog is Ch Creme Anglaise’s Entourage with Silkridge on 38 points. Congratulations to all.
