Whippet Breed Notes 23rd September 2026

The views and opinions expressed in these notes are solely those of the author and do not represent those of the UK Whippet Breed Council.

This is the first set of Notes that will be shared via the Whippet Breed Council. It is now over a
week since the closure of the last remaining dog paper was made public. Although there has
been much moaning and the gnashing of teeth, we have all slowly chipped away at the paper’s
base and hence must share part of the collective blame for its loss. Each win posted, each
beautifully crafted advert, as soon as its arrival, shared on social media, notice of AGMs and
BADs are now found on social media and not necessarily in the paper. I for one can never
understand the manic urgency that some feel about getting their critique written up and posted,
barely before the exhibitors have reached home after attending the very same show. Obviously, to
the top all rounders, who are judging several breeds, virtually every weekend this is a necessary
occupation, but to the one off judge, time is not an issue. Critiques often characterised by
repetition, errors in both spelling and grammar, with the usual overload of certain adjectives such
as the dreaded “nice”. Why this unnecessary haste as there is a fair length of time to submit
critiques after a show. But by doing so, it has had a detrimental affect on the paper by their
posting. However, all is not lost and it looks as if many breeds are providing a platform for breed
notes to be aired and shared on.

The next General Championship Show was Darlington, with Hound Day falling on Saturday 19th
September. The judge was Tom Mather, with an entry of 97 with 16 entries absent on the day.
BOB and taking the DCC was Ch Ranveli Diki Diki owned by Rob Wheeler. Scott went on to take
Hound Group 1 under Martin Sanders. Returning on the Sunday, Scott went onto RBIS under
John Thirlwell .The BCC went to David and Yvette Short’s Ch Collooney Celeste. BP was Russell
Sykes’s and Dawn Mason’s Veredon Not On Your Nelly who was BPB. Under Mr I Blackshaw, they
went on to Hound Puppy Group 4. Ch Collooney Bit on the Side was BV, owned by David and
Yvette. Not to be outdone, Flirt went and topped the Hound Veteran Group under Mrs I McManus
and went BVIS on the Sunday! Kathryn and John Jones’s Jothryn Johnny Be Good JW took the
RDCC second in Open. The RBCC also went to the second in Open Class, Ch Crosscop
Temptation to Supeta, owned by Sue Mycroft, Fiona Spademan and Leigh Morris. There were no
male veterans entered. BPD was, I believe, Jane Wilton-Clark’s Shalfleet Saros. Huge
congratulations to all of the above, especially to those taking Group Places and more! Just three Stakes Class results to share. Wentvalley Gosh She’s Posh at Crosscop was the overall
day’s winner of the Eukanuba Puppy Stakes, owned by Sue, Fiona and Leigh. Again, yet another
Whippet returning on the Sunday, Posh became the overall winner and hence is a qualifier for the
Eukanuba Finals. Well done to all the Team!

the Open Stakes also under Mark, the ladies’s Reffton Tibalt at Whipsearle CW25 JW Imp Spa
was third. Certainly an absolutely fabulous Darlington for the breed.

At the other end of the country, the SWWC held their Open Show with Lisa Samson ( Romaclove)

entry was drawn as is commonplace at this very popular breed club, of 50 dogs and 62 bitches
with about 19 entries absent on the day. The BIS and BD from Limit, was Jade Foxwell’s Cobyco
Capture The Look at Redfoxia JW. Tina Sharp’s Saintharp Can’t Get Enough was RBD from PG.

Under Jean, Mike Howgate’s and Yvonne Hull’s Tervanty Dragon Song at Palmik JW won the
Open Stakes and Katie Manners’s Brace won the Brace Stakes.
Jackie Whitaker Crosby sent news to share of her Cobyco Could Be The Last at Mulcair JW
ShCM VW. Heidi went BVIS at two shows, Leicester City CS and West Bromwich CS. At ten years
old, Heidi enjoys her days out and these last two wins brings her total to four BVIS in 2026. Well
done Heidi!

Liz Woodward sent me results from the Plymouth and DKA Open Show. Liz’s Tervanty Magic
Dragon JW was BOB and HG3, whilst Bryntreia Whispered Love at Palmik JW ShCEx OSW VW
won BHV and the Veteran Stakes under judge Hilary Tringham. Under BIS judge Margaret Diffey
she went on to BVIS! Congratulations to Liz and her girls!

Congratulations to Dave Ford and his Youtube Channel of “Dave’s Countryside Walks” that has
reached 11,000 subscribers! His video walks with his Whippet Fiver (Sochma Just in Time) certainly are incredibly popular, a Whippet that has more miles under his collar than most. Dave’s
and Bex’s Monty (Sunset Warrior) still comes occasionally and of course, the original co-presenter
was Logan, Danluke Lord Sugar, who retired from filming in 2025 and sadly passed away in 2026.
