The culmination of mentoring and observations was rewarded by a level 4 assessment taking place and 3 candidates passing. I am pleased to see that they have been approved in the journal and are now ready to accept CC appointments if asked.
Further to the recommendations issued by the JEP review panel, which still have to be considered and ratified by RKC board, any one who has passed an A3 assessment before end of 2025 should be able to count that as a ‘level 4 assessment’, group mentoring to become advisable. When a firm decision has been made, the changes, if any, will be posted on the WBC website.
To that end, group mentoring has been organised at the Houndshow Ch Sh (Saturday) following the end of Whippet judging. There will also be an A3 assessment following the breed judging at the Houndshow Open show on the Sunday for anyone who has judged enough dogs to qualify.
The 3 clubs due to hold a BAD this year have decided to join forces and give a live presentation. At the moment it’s possible date will be late November and in the Newark area, yet to be confirmed, when it is, information will be available on WBC, EAWC, MWC, NEWS websites & RKC Journal.
Ongoing mentoring is very important and I have to heartily thank all the mentors and observers who give up their time and expertise to assist our up and coming Whippet judges. It is in mentees best interest to try and move out of their locality and have mentoring sessions with different animals for them to view.
I look forward to receiving mentoring requests and helping new judges to progress up the judging ladder. Informal mentoring is available to anyone who does not want to judge but wants to know more about the breed.
The list of mentors and observers has been updated on the RKC website. If there is anyone out there who would like to be considered for a mentoring role I would be very happy to hear from you. Some mentors have let me know which shows they will be attending and it would be very helpful and appreciated if other mentors could do the same. Likewise, if you want mentoring please let me know at which shows you are attending so that I can arrange a suitable mentor, preferably not the day before!
