Breed Council Report From The BEC October 2025

We are now coming to the end of a very busy JEP period. Once again the rules have changed slightly but they seem not to affect our new & upcoming judges too much. Novice judges are less affected by the changes so will continue to complete their journey in the now,’ usual’ route. Those of you who are on an A3 list for 50% of the clubs have until 31.12.25 to get your grandfathering applications in. If clubs will consider any applications from judges to go on A3 as soon as possible please, this would be a great help to some of our upcoming breed specialist judges. If you are there or nearly there, 250 dogs are mandatory, questionnaires are still being accepted until the end of 2026. Please remember that anyone wishing to continue with their judging career and have already judged some dogs would be very wise to ensure that they are registered on their JEP account by 31s December 2025.

Level 1 says that you can judge 3 classes of the breed or 4 if one is a puppy class.

Level 2 says that you can judge unlimited classes for the breed.

WCOW and SWWC physical BAD/MCE was cancelled at the beginning of the month due to a lack of people wishing, able, to attend. It has now been rescheduled to 9th December online and already there are more people who have shown interest. This is being promoted on BC Facebook pages as well as KC chances to learn.

Would any of those clubs who are due to have a BAD/MCE next year consider joining forces under the BC umbrella and have an online BAD/MCE to fulfil their RKC requirements? You would still be at liberty to hold a physical one if you think that numbers would warrant. On-line saves time, money, gives the candidates immediate results and appears to be the way forward especially as we have so many clubs.

If any club who has a lunch break and a spare ring or space would like to consider doing a group mentoring session this would be much appreciated and I am happy to sort mentors & dogs.

If any experienced judge who gets an appointment and can’t fulfil it please will they contact me so that a person requiring classes and dog numbers can move forward with their journey.

I am hoping that RKC will organise an assessment for judges to qualify for level 4 before judging at LKA, if anyone is going to the show and be willing to provide dogs for the assessment please will they contact me directly.

I do thank all the mentors, observers and breed speakers for their time and enthusiasm to ensure that the breed continues to move forward with the times. The list of mentors and observers should have been updated on the RKC website by the end of the month. If there is anyone out there who would like to be considered for a mentoring role I would be very happy to hear from you. Some mentors have let me know which shows they will be attending and it would be very helpful and appreciated if other mentors could do the same. Likewise, if you want mentoring please let me know at which shows you are attending so that I can arrange a suitable mentor, preferably not the day before!

POST MEETING UPDATES 16/11/25 : Looking unlikely that there will be an assessment at LKA due to timescale. The Whippet Club has kindly agreed to host Mentoring at their Members Show in January.
